Good Evening Nimitz Certificated Staff,

I had the pleasure of meeting with our wonderful REED Support Providers during our first week to plan our work for the year. Our aim is to provide you with the best support and facilitate your teaching and learning.

Nimitz teachers that did not complete the REED hours last year see me immediately to discuss how you can “make-up” what you missed.

Each of our support providers have taken a group of new to Nimitz/REED teachers that they will work with. Reach out and introduce yourself!

We have scheduled meeting dates which usually will take place on Thursdays in Room 302 (Ms. Elizondo’s class) from 3-4pm. Refreshments will be provided at the first meeting on 9/1 by yours truly. The meeting dates are:  9/1, 9/29, 10/27, 11/17, 12/8, 1/26, 2/23, 3/30, 4/27, and 5/25.

The following are topics that will be covered at the meetings throughout the year. Your support providers will also be asking you for input on items that need to be addressed.

Teacher / Classroom Mangagement – Strategies, Parent Notification of Missing Assignments, Behavior, etc., via Jupiter Grades

Personal Balance – Organization, Time Management for Productivity

Teaching & Learning – Shadowing, Print-Rich Enviroment (Writing Across the Curriculum), Professional Development, Curriculum Planning, Interactive Notebooks, Habits of Mind

Support Resources – Materials Request, School Resources, Grant Writing, Donor’s Choose

Rollbook & Grades – Homework, Grade Reporting Procedures, Failure Notices, 8th Grade Culmination Requirements

As mentioned at our pupil free day, All certificated staff new to a REED school will complete 40 hours of professional development. Half will be completed “in-house” and facilitated by one of our administrators. The sessions will consist of Modules developed by the district focusing on Habits of Mind. The other 20 hours will be given centrally by the district. Dates and times for those session are TBA.
